- Once an application for granting a patent is filed, it is examined with regard to compliance with the formalities and patentability stipulated in the Patent Law of Egypt. The Patent Office may require any modifications that may be necessary to bring the application into compliance with the law.

- It became known prior to the registration date or priority date through worldwide publication or use.
- Patent applications are closely scrutinized regarding the contents and novelty of the invention. Once the application is accepted, it is automatically published in the Patent Gazette. Any interested party may oppose the grant of the patent within two months from the date of publication. No objection should be brought against the grant of a patent, or if the Committee rejects the objection, the fee for preparing copies for circulation purposes, the last step before granting should be paid to the patent office.
- It takes an average of 3 years from the filing date of a patent application to mature into a granted patent. The premiums must be paid every year as of the filing date of the application even before the patent is granted. However, as per the current patent law, there is a grace period of one year from the due date with a late penalty for settling the payment in annuities.
- The patent is valid for 20 years starting from the date of filing the application.
- Patent rights may be assigned or transferred by succession. Assignments of patent applications and granted patents must be done in writing.
