The international classification of industrial designs under the Locarno Convention is applicable in Egypt. Registration is effective with novelty check. Design or industrial model registration is valid for 10 years starting from the date of submitting the application. Registration can be renewed once for another 5 years. The registration of an industrial design or model is subject to cancellation in the event that any interested party requests such cancellation before the competent court, on the grounds that the industrial design or model was not new at the time the relevant application was submitted. The registration, waiver and cancellation of registrations of industrial designs and models shall be published in the Official Gazette and recorded in the register. The Intellectual Property Law allows objection to the registration of an industrial design or model No. 82 of 2002 and can be submitted within two months from the date of publication of the industrial design.
